The History of Race, Crime, and Punishment in America is a general history of the American Criminal Justice, from its beginnings in the seventeenth century to the present time.

The presentation will address the looming question of how and why the connection between race, class and crime and punishment has been so strong throughout American history. Experts point to four major factors that have impacted public sentiment and criminal justice policy throughout American history: Colonialism, Slavery, Jim Crow Laws, and Poverty.
